Free CRPO exam resources: official documents, sample questions and practice
Facts checked against CRPO's and Ontario's official sources on October 23, 2026.
You can prepare for most of the CRPO Registration Examination without paying for anything. The free core is CRPO's own material: the Resource Manual (with the Lucia sample simulation and the scoring scale), the Entry-to-Practice Competency Profile, the Professional Practice Standards with the Code of Ethics, and the Jurisprudence Manual. Add free practice in the exam's format, such as the 10-minute diagnostic and the full practice case on this site, and a study group or your clinical supervision. This page lists each free resource, what it gives you and where to find it, in English and French.
Free from CRPO and COMPASS
| Resource | What it gives you | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Entry-to-Practice Registration Examination Resource Manual (June 2026) | The format, the +3 to -3 scoring scale, the test blueprint, exam-day rules and a sample simulation (Lucia) with a scored example | crpo.ca, PDF |
| Entry-to-Practice Competency Profile | The competencies the exam is aligned to: in effect, the syllabus | crpo.ca, PDF |
| Professional Practice Standards and Code of Ethics | The rules most options turn on: consent, confidentiality, records, dual relationships, reporting | crpo.ca, online |
| Professional Practice and Jurisprudence manual | Regulation, the Standards and the Ontario laws in one document | crpo.ca, PDF |
| Online Exam Tip Sheet and the remote proctoring rules | What to set up and what is allowed on the day | crpo.ca, PDF |
| COMPASS navigational tutorial | A walk-through of the exam platform | Sent by COMPASS to booked writers |
Each of CRPO's documents is published in French as well. The Resource Manual says the Competency Profile will be most helpful to preparation and that it is available at no cost on the CRPO website.
The one official item that is not free is the COMPASS practice exam: four simulations in about 90 minutes, bought only with your exam seat, reporting one Information Gathering score and one Decision Making score without an answer key. See how to choose a course or practice tool for what it does and does not show you.
Free practice in the exam's format
Reading the documents is not the same as using them under time pressure. The exam is ten client simulations in three hours, each split into Information Gathering and Decision Making sections where every option carries a hidden weight. Free practice that copies that format:
- The 10-minute diagnostic. Ten questions spread across the seven areas of CRPO's exam blueprint, with your result area by area and where to start. No account needed. Take the diagnostic.
- One full practice case. Amrit, a first session that turns on consent and confidentiality, worked section by section, with every option's weight and the reason for it once you answer. Work the free case.
- Two sample sections, answered. One Information Gathering and one Decision Making section, each option weighted and explained, in CRPO exam practice questions.
- The Lucia sample. CRPO's own sample simulation in the Resource Manual, with the competency each section tests.
Free study material on this site
The CRPO Exam Lab is an independent prep tool by Canada Therapy & Wellness, not affiliated with CRPO or COMPASS. Its study library is free to read without an account:
- Eighteen library modules covering the five Competency Profile sections, the Standards, the Code of Ethics, Ontario law and exam strategy, for example the legal framework, reporting duties and the eight-week study plan.
- Five printable one-page sheets: exam day, the traps, reporting duties, consent and capacity and confidentiality and its limits.
- Three decision diagrams, each with worked examples: consent and capacity, duty to report and a client asking for their record.
- Short guides, each answering one question with official sources, from the exam dates, the exam format and scoring to the pass rate and writing it in French.
Everything here is also in French at the same addresses under /crpo/fr. The rest of the lab (all other practice cases, the timed mock exams, study plans and progress) is by subscription.
Free help from people
- Your clinical supervisor. The Resource Manual notes that supervision notes and case discussion are useful preparation. Bring a sample section and talk through why each option scores as it does.
- A study group. Two or three candidates working cases aloud catch each other's blind spots, especially on reporting and consent.
- CRPO itself. Questions about eligibility, booking or accommodations go to CRPO's registration team, not to a prep provider.
How to use these resources in order
- Read the Resource Manual once, end to end, including the Lucia sample.
- Take the free diagnostic to see your weakest areas.
- Read the Competency Profile and the Standards with those areas first, using the library modules as a guide.
- Work the free case and the sample sections, and read every option's reason, including the ones you did not choose.
- Plan the remaining weeks with the study plan guide, and decide whether timed full simulations are worth paying for.
Common questions
Are there free CRPO exam practice questions?
Yes. CRPO's Resource Manual includes the Lucia sample simulation, the practice questions guide has two weighted and explained sections, and this site's diagnostic and one full case are free. No legitimate source has real exam items; treat any offer of them as a warning sign.
Is there a free CRPO mock exam?
No. No full-length mock exam is available at no cost. The COMPASS practice exam is paid and sold only with an exam seat, and full timed mocks elsewhere, including in this lab, are paid.
Can I pass the CRPO exam with only free resources?
Many people do. CRPO reports an 85% average pass rate over the past eight years, and the syllabus documents are free. Paid practice helps most with timing and with the reasons behind each weight.
Are the free resources available in French?
Yes. CRPO publishes the Resource Manual, the Competency Profile, the Standards and the Jurisprudence Manual in French, and everything free on this site is in French too.
