About the Exam Lab

An independent preparation platform for the CRPO Registration Examination, built to the examination's own format. This page explains what it copies from the real exam, where its content comes from, and how far to trust its scores.

What it replicates

The CRPO Registration Examination is the Canadian Professional Standard for Counselling and Psychotherapy, a competency-based simulation assessment. It presents ten simulations across three hours. Nine are scored and one is an unscored pilot. Each simulation opens with a scenario, followed by five to eight sections that are either Information Gathering or Decision Making. Options carry weights from plus three to minus three, selections are irreversible, and a candidate must pass the Information Gathering and Decision Making raw totals separately.

Everything on this platform is built to that specification, including the parts people find uncomfortable. Selections lock. Skipped sections do not come back. In mock exam mode, nothing about an option's weight is shown while you work, because on the real exam a seriously detrimental choice can produce a perfectly pleasant client response.

Where the content comes from

Every simulation here is an original work written for this platform: 63 simulations, 384 sections, and 3,348 calibrated options, each carrying its competency alignment and a written rationale. The 18 study modules are likewise original writing.

Nothing is reproduced from CRPO or COMPASS examination materials, from the Entry-to-Practice Registration Examination Resource Manual, or from the Competency-Based Case Study Workbook. Those documents are proprietary. What this platform does use is the published, citable framework that the examination assesses against: the Competency Profile for Registered Psychotherapists, the Professional Practice Standards, the Code of Ethics, and the Ontario statutes that govern practice. Those are cited and linked, not republished.

What this covers maps each standard, principle, competency and law to the lesson that teaches it, with how many cards and case options test it.

About the scoring

CRPO does not publish cut scores in advance. COMPASS sets the pass mark for each exam form with a criterion-referenced method (a modified Angoff), separately for Information Gathering and Decision Making, and it is not a fixed percentage across items; your score sheet shows it afterwards, beside your own two results. This platform therefore sets its own working benchmark at sixty percent of the attainable positive score in a section, applied separately to each strand and summed across a simulation or an exam form.

Treat a result here as a training signal about the shape of your performance, not a prediction of a pass or fail. The most useful thing it tells you is how your two strands compare, because the real examination passes each one on its own against its own pass mark.

What it is not

This platform is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, and it is not a substitute for the College's own materials. Registration requirements, exam dates, fees and standards change. Confirm anything that matters against crpo.ca.

It is also not clinical advice. The simulations are teaching instruments. Real clients are not multiple choice, and the competent action in a real room is the one arrived at with a real person in front of you.

The disclaimers page sets all of this out in one place, with how your account and data are handled.
