Scenario
NoorCommunity health centre, Toronto
You are a Registered Psychotherapist at a Toronto community health centre. You have never worked with an interpreter. Noor Haddad, 27, a Deaf ASL user, is referred for low mood after a breakup.
At the first session, Noor sees the booked interpreter, Rania, and stops. Rania voices her signing: 'I know her. Her sister is close friends with my ex. I don't know if I can do this today.'
