Social Work Exam Lab · in planning

Preparation for Ontario’s new social work exams, if you want us to build it

From fall 2028, everyone registering with Ontario’s College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers must pass an ASWB entry-to-practice exam, and some applicants from fall 2027. We are considering a Canadian, bilingual prep lab. It does not exist yet; the list decides.

No launch date, no price yet, and no real exam questions, ever. Independent of the College and ASWB.

    What is changing

As the College and ASWB describe it. They decide what applies to you.

    1. Fall 2027

Equivalency applicants approved in principle and certain reinstatement applicants must pass an entry-to-practice exam to register with Ontario’s College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.

    2. Fall 2028

All applicants must pass one, including graduates of accredited social work and social service work programs. Students who convocate in fall 2028 are the first graduating group to sit it. Current registrants are not required to.

    3. The exams

The College is working with ASWB, which is updating its social work exam, developing a social service work exam and creating French versions of both. ASWB’s new social work exams began on 3 August 2026: 110 scored questions and 12 pretest questions in four hours.

    4. Elsewhere in Canada

Several provinces already use ASWB exams for some or all applicants, for example Alberta and Manitoba. Your own regulator decides whether you write one, and which.

    What we would build

Built on the engine of our CRPO Exam Lab, for Canadian candidates. A plan, not a promise: your answers on the form shape it.

    1. Practice questions written for the new exams

Original vignette questions in the style of ASWB’s 2026 exams, written from scratch, never from recalled exam items, each answer explained.

    2. The Canadian frame

Explanations grounded in the Ontario College’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice and Canadian law, not only the American references most prep uses.

    3. Social work and social service work

A track for each exam, timed full-length practice exams and progress by content area.

    4. English and French

The same questions in both languages, with the AI study guide of our CRPO Exam Lab, on a phone, tablet or computer.
